You're right, even with those with VeDoc access are two types 1. users with read only acccess 2. Users with read and write access to edit VeDoc.
About 5 years ago, i used the option of retrofit to add a componet using Xentry. It was an illuminated stepboard that required wire addition to Front SAM for power and attaching ground to the body, adding SAA code(using the retrofit option) then carrying out SCN coding on Front SAM to activate the power supply. I have not done any since but the retrofit option allows you to add and remove SAA code, It is still part of Xentry installation.
